As we walked along the Ammoudara main road from our hotel in Crete we were at a bit of a loss over which place to try first.
What attracted us to this joint was its unusual decor and the fact that it’s one of the few places that doesn’t have an annoying man standing outside trying to accost you through the door.
That said, once inside the elderly owner is very much in your face, but not in a bad way. He’s friendly….but certainly has an eye for the ladies!
Our waitress was very nice and attentive, making sure we knew exactly what each dish entailed if we were unsure and recommending various wine and beer for us to try.
One thing I would say about this area is that most of the restaurants serve quite similar food. But this place does things slightly differently to the rest, which gives it an edge.
If you don’t mind birds in cages singing while you eat, this is a must-visit restaurant when in the area.
As we were leaving, the owner took my wife into a back bar area. While it came across as a bit familiar, he presented her with a lovely box of chocolates. So don’t be alarmed if this happens to you…it’s all in good fun.
We went back a few days later, which says a lot as there is a wide choice in the area.
